30 September (tue) 8pm "Aural Mist" by Eric Thielemans "Aural Mist" is an experimental sound art project by Eric Thielemans that investigates the concepts of quietude and silence within specific spaces. Through a climatological and sensory lens, IThielemans explores the subtle sounds present in an acoustical environment, focusing on the "point zero" of sound where silence may exist. The project involves capturing these quiet sounds and reintroducing them into the same space, layering them with additional sounds played on top. History of ther project: Aural Mist 2nd edition. was recorded at CASSTL, also in Antwerp, the artist run space of painter Luc Tuymans and the artist dup Arocha-Schraenen. This edition will be released somewhere in 2026. Eric Thielemans, together with Belgian actor/writer Josse De Pauw, just started a new and 3rd edition at a church in Neerijse, South of Brussels, a village close to the village of Overijse where Eric Thielemans grew up. This edition includes participation of the local communicty, as the choir and the organ player of the church will participate in the creation of it., while Josse De Pauw will lend his voice and story telling to the project. Aural Mist Permian will be the 4th editon of the work.
The project was developed in Stadslimiet, an artist-run space in Antwerp, where Thielemans cleared the room to allow its natural acoustics to resonate freely. Using high-quality microphones and a field recorder, nightly ambient sounds where captured. The final composition is a layered mix of these recordings, transitioning between the ambient city sounds and live performances, creating a unique auditory experience that reflects the quiet complexity of urban environments.

The work will be recorded during Eric Thielemans’ residency at Permian September 30th till October 2nd 2025.
The performances on those days are public, some will be part of Aural Mist, some will be regular concerts.
